1891 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS63 Tough Philly Date in Choice Uncirculated
Surprisingly tough coin to find, this 1891 Philadelphia issue Morgan Silver Dollar has been graded by PCGS MS63 just recently. The 1891 is elusive to find in a problem-free uncirculated grade. It is even more difficult to find in a problem free uncirculated grade slabbed by one of the top third party grading services, and scracer still at the Choice BU level (MS63-64).
Here we have one that just came back from PCGS where it was graded PCGS MS63.
This coin's elusiveness is seen in the fact that the values for this coin in MS grades run about 30-50% higher than for the more common date mid 1880s Philadelphia or early 1880's San Francisco coins. While the value is 30-40% above those coins in MS62, at this level many collectors may consider this grade to be an ideal collector grade where the value remains at a more affordable level.
The 1891 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar gets much harder to find once you get to the MS63 level. MS63's are running about $100 over the price of what MS62's command. And when you get to MS64, the value really escalates up to around $600-675
Greysheet Bid/Ask in MS63 is $200/$260
PCGS Price Guide has this at $275
At SAM's, we use Stock Photos very infrequently. The coin in the photos is the exact coin you will receive.
