1898-O Barber Dime, Choice Almost Uncirculated, Discounted Better Date 1216-01

In my opinion, this coin was an AU-58 "slider" that was very carefully processed (i. e. "conserved" or cleaned, take your choice of terms) to make it appear Uncirculated, an "old school" trick from the 1970's era.  A much tougher date especially if well struck as this coin is, and very scarce to rare as an Unc, which explains the attempt to fool the unwary.  Based on my experience, this coin is struck better than perhaps 90% of high grade survivors, with a full LIBERTY and band, full ear of corn and 95%+ of the wreath detail.  The eye appeal is generally good other than the scratch to the right of the date, and if you can live with the cleaning this has a lot of meat for the price.  While this coin will not certify in anything but a Details holder, it is guaranteed genuine, backed by our firm’s 80+ years in the business, plus all the industry “garden salad” (PCGS, CAC, NGC, ANACS, ANA, etc., etc.).  Priced based upon the real world market, where I cannot purchase a coin like this for chump change - normally a $500 coin, more if recognized for the strike.  Due to value this will require shipping with Signature Confirmation, hence the S&H shown.
