1898-S Silver Barber Quarter XF Detail Rim Damage - Semi Key Date
Tough semi-key date 1898-S Barber Quarter with borderline XF Detail. There is damage around 12:00 to the obverse rim area. It may have been holed and filled or it could just be rim damage, I cannot be certain but it is clearly visible in thye pictures and in one picture, I took a closeup image of just that area.
Aside from the rim damage, this coin has wonderful surface quality and a very appealing circulated cameo look to it.
Obverse stars all show some degree of three dimensionality with separation on the six sided stars, the forehead hair is strong and 3 dimensional and the diadem shows srong fine detail. On the reverse, the eagle wing featehrs extend just about to the tips and the neck and claw feather detail is thick and bushy. The shield has nice separation and full vertical line detail and about 80% of the horizontal lines are complete.
Nice eye appeal and a natural looking skin to this rarely encountered key date Barber Quarter.
A $250-300 coin in a problem free XF grade, this one is avaialble for almost half that price discounted accordingly due to the rim issue.
