Item Description
Choice to Gem Uncirculated, with an unusual Obverse feature. Just above the "8" in the date is a "blob", which at first blush has the appearance of the base of a "2". It would make no sense to have had such a date digit punched into a die in 1908, so I assume it was most likely a form of die damage. Such things most commonly occurred from something falling into the coining chamber, back in the screw press days. There is also small signs of something similar to the left of the offending mark - certainly a curiosity and perhaps worthy of someone's study of the matter. And the coin itself isn't chopped liver either!
