Lot 3 Different Cents from 1909! (LOT E531)
In the beginning of 1909, the US Mint were minting 1909 Indian Head Cents. However, the US Treasury wanted to celebrate Lincoln's 100th Anniversary of his Birthday. Therefore, the US Treasure employed Victor David Brenner to design the Lincoln Wheat Cent. Mr. Brenner decided to place his initials VDB on the reverse of these new Lincoln Wheat Cents. So the US Mint stopped minting the 1909 Indian Head Cents, and started minting the 1909-VDB Lincoln Wheat Cent. Then US Treasury realized that they were not celebrating Mr. Brenner, so they removed the VDB from the Lincoln Wheat Cent. Then a third 1909 cent was minted. This listing includes all three of the 1909 cents minted in Philadelphia.
