1909-P + 1909-VDB + 1909 INDIAN HEAD CENTS (Lot of 3 Cents) Lot B431
In 1909 the US Treasure wanted to honor President Lincoln on the anniversary of his 100th Birthday. The US Mint began the year minting Indian Head Cents for the last year with the 1909 Indian Head Cent. Victor David Brenner was asked to design a new Lincoln Cent. Victor David Brenner decided to include his initials at the bottom of the reverse side. (VDB). The US Treasury stopped including the "VDB" because the cent was supposed to honor President Lincoln and not the designer. As a result, the 1909 Indian Head Cent was the rarest of the Indian Head cents minted in the 1900's. Since the VDB was stopped, the 1909-VDB became more rare than the 1909-P. Also, since they were not minting 1909-P's for the entire year, this cent also became harder to get. This is a set of all three of these 1909 Cents and all are in real nice condition.
