1914-D Lincoln Wheat Cent PCGS F Fine Detail Environmental Damage Carbon Spots
1914-D Key Date Lincoln Cent graded as Fine Details (Genuine), Environmental Damage by PCGS.
Normally I would expect the E/D notation for verdigris, corrosion or dark surfaces from improper or moist storage conditions. I see carbon spotting on the reverse, but nothing inconsistent with what is within an acceptable range for copper coins from my experience. That said, the coin is therefore available on discount.
The 1914-D is on the of the most counterfeit20th century coins due to its scarcity and higher value even in lower grades. If you are unfamiliar with how to detect the difference or what to look for it is highly recommended to buy a certified one. It is well known that 1944-D coins have been altered to appear to be 1914-D. But these are very easy to detect due to the large gap between the 1 and 4 in the date 1914. Additionally, knowledge is power. Starting in 1918, the designer initials, VDB appeared on Lincoln's lapel or collar. Therefore, the initials should NOT be there on a genuine 1914-D, but if it is an altered 1944-D, they would be there. There are many other facets, and things to look for.
