The mintage of this issue is remarkably close to that of 1913, yet fewer seem to have survived in fully red gem. This is not to say that such coins are truly rare, as this is by all measures a fairly common date. Worn examples likely exist in the tens or hundreds of thousands.

Most 1914(P) are quite well struck, and it appears that the Philadelphia Mint was more prompt in replacing worn dies. During Fiscal Year 1914 (July 1, 1913 through June 30, 1914), the Philadelphia Mint used a total of 655 cent dies, and all cent planchets were produced onsite, rather than being purchased.
