Item Description
Details of Choice Extremely Fine (EF-45), old cleaning. This coin was recovered out of a California hoard, and cleaned unfortunately, apparently to remove toning. Sharp detail and significant remaining luster, more than my images show, with generally even color. The odd "flat" looking area that encompasses Liberty's head and the top of her armful of branches is due to strike, not wear or damage. The surfaces are generally mark free other than some light normal scuffing that would have occurred in the circulation this saw, in my opinion not due to the cleaning. This is not too far from what would certify in a normal holder, and I have seen worse make it - just not worth my time and money right now to try it. Not worth what an unimpaired specimen would be worth (closer to $400-$500 if it would certify) however not too horrible looking and worthy of consideration for a mid- to upper-grade circulated set. The color should continue to tone down over time. I also have several other coins of the same date available, some listed here and others on ebay.
