The Denver Mint experienced considerable difficulty with its Dime dies in 1920. Early cracks suggest improperly hardened steel, and the basining process may also have been poorly handled by the personnel in Denver. Worse yet, striking quality seems to have suffered even for most die pairs that were properly executed. In addition to the all-important central reverse crossbands, many '20-D Dimes lack sharp definition on the final digit in the date.
