This medal (or token) is a souvenir of the 1924 celebration of the centennial of the G. V. S. Quackenbush & Co. department store in Troy, New York. Popularly known as "The Old Store," this store was founded by Gerrit Van Schaick Quackenbush (what a name!), and it eventually became a major department store. One side has the company's logo - a huge letter Q enclosing the intertwined letters GVS . The other side has the words A CENTURY OF FAITHFUL SERVICE in the center and the words 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF TROY'S OLD STORE and the dates 1824-1924 along the rim. At the bottom rim of this side is the name of the manufacturer - Bastian Brothers (Rochester, NY) .,this piece was part of the Lenard Babin collection of tokens, medals, militaria.
