1929-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar with "No AW" Reverse. Very Good Grade. This variety is included Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins, and listed herein as Breen 5154. There a number of different dates in the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series that are missing the designer's initials at about the 4:30 o'clock position on the reverse, and the 1929-S is but one of them. Over excessive die polishing by a mint employee is what prompted this variety. It is the same mistake that caused the famous 1937-D 3-legged Buffalo Nickel to occur. This variety is also mentioned in the Cherrypickers' Guide 5th Edition Volume 2 on page 279. Fully original surfaces that have not been messed with. Grading is subjective. Please examine the attached photos to formulate your own opinion in regard to grade.
