1930-S Buffalo Nickel Repunched Mint Mark (RPM) #2. Sharp Extremely Fine Grade. Listed in the Cherypickers' Guide 5th Edition Volume 1, this variety is indexed as FS-05-1930S-501, and appears on page 295. The secondary "S" mintmark is visible to the east of the primary mintmark. The Cherrypickers' Guide also mentions that "this variety has been known for some time, but seldom is seen." I agree with that. This is the only copy I have ever located, and similar copies seldom come up for bidding/buy it now on eBay. All 4 digits of the date are sharp and readable, and the buffalo's horn is FULL and COMPLETE. Upon further study on the Variety Vista website, I summarize this nickel is in a Stage C die stage as evidenced of the reliable die marker, that of a light die crack north from the buffalo's head to the upper U of United on the reverse. Original surfaces that have not been messed with. According to the PCGS Website, the current market value for this variety in extremely fine grade is $200.00. Grading is subjective. Please examine the attached photos to formulate your own opinion in regard to grade.
