1934, the punch for the D mintmark was modified for the Mercury dime, the Walking Liberty half dollar, and the Peace dollar. The small D that characterized dimes produced since 1917 yielded to the large D that would stay with the series until its eclipse in 1945. Neither of these varieties are particularly rare when compared to the other, but the issue as a whole is conditionally scarce.
