1938 D Buffalo Nickel

Here is a 1938 D Buffalo Nickel that has been submitted to PCGS for restoration and graded as VF 30, about halfway between an 'entry-level' VF coin and an EF coin. It was sent in because I felt it was a D/S (FS-511); alas, I was mistaken, although you can see some slight doubling at the top of the mint mark (either from an earlier "D" or "S"). Apparently, it is faux doubling and does not match their definition of an FS-511. Thus, my mistake is your gain. As you examine the photos, you can see that, like so many Buffalo Nickels, the front is misaligned with the reverse by a couple of degrees but in the opposite direction of most coins. PCGS (September/October 2021) indicates that a VF 30 coin would be worth $5 and USACoinbook warrants that if you were to go to a dealer that you would pay over $5 for a VF 20 coin; an EF 40 would cost you between $5 and $6. However, you can have this restored and graded coin for only $4 (plus shipping).

This item is a part of a liquidation sale currently in progress and is priced to sell. Retirement looms and with no one else in the family interested in this pastime, it is time to find new homes for all of my coins. Please note that other avenues of liquidation are being explored so this particular item may not be around much longer.
