1941 P Mercury Dime - Doubled Die Obverse

Here is a 1941 P Mercury Dime that has been sent in to PCGS for restoration and received a grade of MS 63 FB (Full Bands). Further, you may notice from the TrueView® photos that some of the letters in "LIBERTY" are double-struck. You can also see this exhibited in "WE." Although this coin is not an FS-101 DDO, PCGS indicates that it clearly is a DDO. This is truly a stellar coin and we may well see the day when a new DDO variant (FS-102?) is created for this year and mint. For what it is worth, it appears that the front is slightly offset from the reverse, this is because the coin was not aligned properly in the holder; actually, the front is pretty well in agreement with the reverse. PCGS (July/August 2021) indicates that an MS 63 FB coin would be worth $16 while USACoinbook warrants that if you were to buy an MS 63 coin from a dealer that you would pay $34 and makes no distinction between the FB coin and the non-FB coin. Further, PCGS also states that an FS-101 DDO coin in this condition would be worth $65. However, you can have this restored and graded coin for only $35 (plus shipping).

This item is a part of a liquidation sale currently in progress and is priced to sell. Retirement looms and with no one else in the family interested in this pastime, it is time to find new homes for all of my coins. Please note that other avenues of liquidation are being explored so this particular item may not be around much longer.
