This is a common coin that was widely hoarded at the time of issue. Numerous gems have been certified. As is true of most coins struck during the war years, the Denver Mint edition is the most consistently well made of the three mints' output.
Several repunched mintmark varieties are known for 1943-D cents. The best of these, FS-501, is among the most dramatic RPM varieties for the Lincoln Cent series and is extremely popular.
