From 1920 to 1945 the Mexican Silver 1 Peso Cap and Ray coins were minted from .720 fine silver and each coin has an actual silver weight (ASW) of 0.3856 oz fine silver. The Mexican Silver Pesos appeal to individuals that seek a low premium, yet attractive, coin to add to their holdings. The obverse features a rather large depiction of the national coat of arms of Mexico in rich detail. A majestic eagle proudly stands on a cactus, while devouring a snake. The eagle's head splits the legend, "0.720," which is the fineness of the silver, and is encircled by the inscription, "Estados Unidos Mexicanos." On the reverse of this highly popular silver bullion coin is the classic "Cap and Ray" design. The Libertad, or liberty, Cap floats above, while rays of light shoot out from behind it in all directions. An elegant design adorns the entire rim with the rays of light shining above, the denomination "UN PESO" is struck in large letters , with the date under it. It's not difficult to see why the Cap and Ray Un Peso silver coin is adorned by coin collectors across the globe.
