This stunning toned 1944 late date Walker is truly a GEM to behold. This 1944 specimen is known to be scarcer in mint state condition than the 1941-1943 and 1945 Walkers. The strike is bold and the underlying surfaces are generally clean and satiny, making it boast an outstanding eye appeal. It has beautiful iridescent toning over the obverse including hazel centers, while the reverse displays colors of sandy-bleached yellow and sepia. The specimen exhibits a virtually flawless surface with looks that are off the charts. This amazing coin is a spectacular example of the late date Walking Liberty Half Dollar in every sense. We believe from a technical standpoint, this coin is genuinely superb, with its flawless surfaces that radiate mint brilliance.
Examples are elusive in MS67 and finer, and only a handful of coins are known in MS68 with only four reported at PCGS. With only one finer at CAC, which sold for $84,000 06/21 ST, and the only relevant CAC MS67+ comparable in recent years to another toned example sold for $8,400 03/24 ST.
