This coin was first produced by the United States Mint in 1932 and it replaced the Standing Liberty Quarter. The Quarter featured this same design through 1974 and again from 1977 through 1998. In 1975 and 1976, the standard eagle design on the reverse was temporarily replaced to honor the bicentennial of the Declaration of Independence.
The coin features a portrait of the first President of the United States, George Washington. Washington was born on February 22, 1732, and this coin was produced to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth.
