1946 (P) Walking Liberty Half Dollar Doubled Die Reverse. AU 55 grade.. Much of the original mint luster is present on the fully original surfaces that have not been messed with. The 1946 Walking Liberty Half Dollar DDR offered here features the strongest and most extensive doubled die of the entire series, and is in great demand. Strong doubling is visible on the eagle's large wing feathers and left leg, the inner parts of the cactus branches, the letters LURIBUS of PLURIBUS, and the letters UM of UNUM. Excellent closeup photos of the doubling can be seen on the variety vista website. This variety is included in the Cherrypickers' Guide 5th Edition Volume 2, indexed as FS-50-1946-801, and found on page 280. Grading is subjective. Please examine the attached photos to formulate your own opinion in regard to grade.
PLEASE NOTE: This coin is DOUBLE LISTED. It is listed under the Walking Liberty Half Dollars category, AND ALSO under the Cherrypickers' Guide Varieties category. If this item should sell under THAT category, it will immediately be deleted from THIS category. The current market value for this variety in about uncirculated 55 grade on the PCGS website is $250.00. If this coin would be sent to PCGS or NGC for grading and slabbing, I am confident it would make that AU55 grade. It's really a sharp looking copy of this tough-to-find variety!
