This issue had the largest mintage of any Denver Mint cent to date, and it paved the way for rapidly escalating production over the next several years.
High-grade examples of the 1951-D cent are fairly plentiful, as these coins were well made and many of them preserved in original rolls.
This issue is rich in varieties. While most are minor, several good ones are recognized by NGC under its VarietyPlus Service, including two D/S overmintmarks.
