Edge: Reeded A huge mintage was combined with the well established practice of collectors and speculators of saving BU rolls each year to make this issue quite common in all grades through MS 66. Finer specimens become a bit elusive, as quality control was mediocre at the Philadelphia Mint during the 1950s. Budgets had been cut for all three mints after the war ended, and dies were used far beyond the point of becoming eroded and blurry. Nevertheless, FT examples seem to exist in sufficient supply for advanced collectors. A doubled-die reverse variety has surfaced, with the doubling visible at the bottom of the torch. |
