The slightly diminished coinage of cents at Philadelphia during 1957-58 was due to an economic recession during those years. This is nevertheless a common coin in any grade short of MS 67 RD. Most were reasonably well made by 1950s standards, but that's not saying much. The coin illustrated is sharper than most. Varieties are few, but one in particular is spectacular. A very bold obverse doubled-die is known, but it remains exceedingly rare. What was once heralded as a 1958/7 overdate is now regarded as simply a flaw in the die.
