This coin is a 1959 US 90% Silver Franklin Type/Variety 2 Half Dollar. The Type 2 coins were stamped on Proof dies by mistake. Business strike coins were supposed to have been only struck on Type 1 dies. The Philadelphia Mint issued 6,200,000 coins of this design in 1959, however, it is unknown how many had the Type 2 reverse, which commands a higher value than the Type 1.
