This is a 1962 Proof Lincoln cent with a doubled die reverse that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1962 1¢ Pr WDDR-026. Split serifs can be seen on the letters of STATES OF AMERICA, the NT of CENT, and a nice spread shows on the designer's initials. This is a minor doubled die variety that requires magnification to see. If you collect only doubled dies that are easy to see, then this doubled die variety may not be for you. While this variety is minor, it is EXTREMELY RARE!!! Proof cent dies are used to strike about 3,000 proof coins before they are retired from use. That means that it is extremely unlikely that more than 3,000 specimens of this variety exist. Sorry, but we do not have any photos of this variety available at this time. Satisfaction guaranteed. Full 15 day return privilege as long as the coin has not been removed from the 2x2 in which it was sold. You can rest assured that you are getting a genuine doubled die variety. I am the John A. Wexler who has authored or co-authored numerous different books about die varieties including the original The RPM Book, The Complete Price Guide and Cross Reference to Lincoln Cent Mint Mark Varieties, The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die, The Best of the Jefferson Nickel Doubled Die Varieties, The Best of the Washington Quarter Doubled Die Varieties, The Authoritative Reference on Lincoln Cents, Treasure Hunting Buffalo Nickels, Treasure Hunting Mercury Dimes and several others. I hope that you will visit our die variety website at www.doubleddie.com and we wish you the best of luck with all of your collecting efforts.
