This is a 1968-S Proof Kennedy half dollar that should grade PR65 or better. The coin is actually still in the U.S. Mint proof set that it left the Mint in. It has a doubled die obverse that is listed in The Cherrypicker's Guide To Rare Die Varieties as FS-50-1968S-101 (formerly 014). It is also listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1968-S 50¢ WDDO-001 and in the CONECA Doubled Die Files as 2-O-I. A strong Class I clockwise spread shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, LIBERTY, the designer's initials, and also on Kennedy's nose, eyebrow, and upper hair details. Since the average life of a half dollar proof die is about 2,400 coins, it is highly unlikely that more than that exist making this variety EXTREMELY RARE!!!
