1970's Germany/DDR Ship's Currency 5 Pfennig AU. ssued by the VEB Deutsche Seereederei Rostock (DSR) for use on board the holiday ships Fritz Heckert and Völkerfreundschaft. Völkerfreundschaft had previously been known as the Stockholm and had it's claim to faim as the ship that collided with the Andrea Doria and sinking her. She also cllided withe the West German submarine U-26 in 1983. Still in service as a cruise ship until recently, she is currently named the Astoria and is up for sale. The VEB Deutsche Seereederei Rostock (DSR) acquired these Fritz Heckert in Feburary of 1971, but it was taken out of use as a cruise ship by May of the same year, suggesting that this piece was designed during that period, although it may have actually been used anytime up until 1985 when the Völkerfreundschaft was sold.
