Offered here for the collector is a 1984-D Jefferson Nickel error coin.

The die that struck this coin was over due to be replaced. The coins it was striking were showing Die Deterioration Doubling,(DDD). It's considered a common error, but in this case it affected coins in an interesting way. Many of the letters on this coin show it very strongly..
