No 5p coins were issued for circulation from 1981 until 1987, this was due to the fact that pre-decimal shillings were still circulating as part of the decimalisation process having a value of 5p. Shillings were finally demonetised in 1990 alongside this larger 5p issue type when the smaller 5p coin was introduced.
