This set was issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes. This set includes a 2015 March of Dimes Proof Silver Dollar and two 90 percent silver dimes all featuring portraits of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The for first time in United State Mint history, this special set includes one dime with a reverse proof finish from the United State Mint at Philadelphia and one from the United State Mint at West Point with a proof finish.
The obverse (heads) and reverse (tails) of the Silver Dollar are emblematic of the mission and programs of the March of Dimes foundation and its distinguished record of generating Americans' support to protect children's health. Consistent with the traditions and heritage of the foundation, the design themes represent its past, present, and future, as well as its role as a champion of infants. The obverse design - representing the past - depicts a profile view of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dr. Jonas Salk, two leaders in the fight against polio. The reverse design depicts a baby cuddled in the hands of a parent, representing the foundation's dedication to the health of babies everywhere.
The set's two dimes are 90% silver, but have obverse and reverse designs identical to the traditional Roosevelt dime.
Only 75,000 of these Special Silver Sets were authorized. They were very popular when they were issued with 85% of available sets being sold in the first three days. Great Gift for that Special Coin collector in your life.
I purchased this set directly from the US Mint in 2015.
