2024 Tuvalu 1 oz Silver The Kingston
Continuing the iconic Black Flag series from The Perth Mint, the sixth release features John "Calico Jack" Rackham & Anne Bonny's famously pillaged merchant ship, the Kingston. Calico Jack is one of the most remarkable figures from the Golden Age of Piracy. He was an English pirate captain who derived the nickname, "Calico Jack" from the calico patterned clothing. He was also known for having two female pirates in his crew, which included his lover, the Irish Anne Bonny. Anne fled her husband and ran away with Calico Jack after the pair met at port. They sailed the Caribbean in the early18th century, carrying out countless acts of piracy before their capture by the British Navy in 1720. While Calico Jack was tried for piracy and executed, Anne Bonny's fate is unclear, further adding to the timeless fascination with their unlikely pairing on the sea. Theirs is an intriguing love story complete with the trappings of adventure, romance and defiance.
