In 2001, the United States Mint produced approximately 9,748,109 American Silver Eagle Coins. Of the originals, only 86,596 of them have been assigned an MS69 (Mint State 69) grade by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation). MS69 American Silver Eagle coins are coins with a near perfect condition and have retained most of their original luster. These coins are virtually free of scuffs or hairline marks. One or two contact marks may be visible, but never on a prominently featured part of the design. All coins assessed by the NGC are sealed and kept in their certified slabs or cases to preserve their official mint state.
