Beautiful, mostly red gem from the famous Newman Collection. CAC approved for quality and eye appeal. This 1885 1c NGC/CAC MS66 RB is part of the Indian Head, Shield Reverse (Bronze) series which were struck from 1864-1909. The coin was minted in Philadelphia with a composition of 95% copper; 5% zinc & tin. 1885 1C MS66 Red and Brown NGC. CAC. At the MS66 grade level, this "common" date becomes a notable condition rarity; NGC has certified only 20 Red and Brown examples at this level (1 in 66 ), with just two finer (9/14). This representative boasts satiny luster beneath beautifully blended hues of rose, coppery-orange, and olive toning, while the strike is sharp and the surfaces are virtually free of any detectable flaws.
