The SILVER 3 pence from the reign of King George Vi were struck from 1937-44 and have far smaller mintages (none over ten million) than one would expect for a small denomination from a major world power. The reason for this is the introduction of the BRONZE 3 pence in 1937 which was intended to replace SILVER 3 pence. The latter coin did hold on until 1944 as was still popular with a small part of the British public especially in Scotland. (Stock #GREAT BRITAIN 03p1942L53 HJRXFT HJKBFTbMaBe)
