1954-S OBW Bank Wrapped Roll BU Jefferson Nickels Auto Coin Wrap Brooklyn NY

1954-S OBW Bank Wrapped Roll - Shotgun Roll with. generic wrapper "Auto Coinwrappers Brooklyn, NY".

Clearly an original roll as attested by the softness and patina and wear indicators and pattern of the roll itself. The ink is starting to fade/but it is still not difficult to make out the Auto Coinwrapper insignia which was commonplace for the era..

Better date and one known for having almost no full steps certified examples. This is further evidenced by the flatly struck end of roll tails side coin. this is among the poorest struck issue in the entire Jefferson Nickels series. There are very few examples with full steps. The vast majority of 1954-S Nickels have very flat designs, flat as a pancake which is believed to be due to the US Mint reusing the dies from earlier years and they would have been obviously quite worn out from millions of previous strikes. It is not unusual to see these coins with not only no steps, but to show just basic outlines of the Monticello and other major details. Do not confuse poorly struck coins with wear.

Unbroken luster rolls over uncirculated coins whether they're fully struck or poorly struck.

One way to confirm if a bank wrapped roll from the 1950s into the mid 1960s is original or not is to confirm the paper used and the stock (thickness) of the paper. It is of a thicker stock than that used from the 1970s onward. The writing should also be faded. Ink does not stay fresh, bright and bold 70 years later. There are numerous other tip offs that you can read up about if you don't already know.
