OBW Shotgun BU Roll 1964-D 90% Silver Roosevelt Dimes Toned End

Original OBW Shotgun Bank Wrapped BU Roll  1964-D BU Uncirculated Roosevelt Dimes.  Very nice toning on the Heads showing side.

No visible writing on the roll other than the 1964-D a previous owner hand wrote. There was potentially inked writing on the roll at one time that could have very well faded away over the last 60 years.

The paper is a thick stock and the paper has an aged patina consistent with the original bank wrapped rolls of this era. I NEVER list bank wrapped rolls as GEM BU Rolls. Why? Because I cant see the coins, and Gem grades are a lot more difficult to attain than the illusion created by modern sellers who attach this adjective to virtually all of their listings.

These days so many sellers use (overuse) the term Original, Gem, from original roll. Some use these adjectives in almost every single one of their listings. By applying the term Gem to all of your listings, you are diminishing the value of gem to average or below average. It is on auto pilot in many descriptions. How can an unopened bank wrapped roll of coins be stamped as Gem if they have never been opened? What, from the end of roll coin that while toned, almost always exhibits bag marks and imperfections from being exposed?

When we use these terms, we do so very carefully and conservatively.  We cannot state with certainty anything is is original unless we have had sole custody of said item from inception. I look for signs of originality. Absent of any "red flags", we can assume said item is more likely than not to be original. But, we don't stop there. We ensure the edges and patina of a roll all match.

I would suggest to everyone  - Do your own homework before buying anything. You will save yourself a lot of stress and money later while enjoying the interesting educational things you learn along the way!
