1983 OBW Bank Wrapped Roll Lincoln Memorial Cents BU 50 Coin Roll
This listing is for a "Shotgun" or OBW/BU Bank Wrapped Roll of 1983 Lincoln Memorial Cents. Generic machine wrapped roll with no bank stamp on the paper. Very tight, machine wrapped unopened roll of 50 coins.
The 1983 Lincoln Memorial Cent was the first full year the US Mint switched the penny composition from 95% Copper to Copper plated Zinc. The new Zinc cents also weighed considerably less than the 95% copper cents weighing in at 2.5g per cent vs the 3.1g weight of a pre-1982 copper cent.
The 1983 Lincoln Memorial Cent is also known for having one of the series Major Doubled Die Reverse Variety (DDR). This is one of the major DDR varieties of the series. In lower uncirculated grades, these go for several hundred dollars, and are quite scrarce with a total population under 2000 coins graded at PCGS in all grades across Red, Red Brown, and Brown
At the time of listing, we have multiple rolls of these avaialble; all virtually identical with the only difference being some are Heads/Tails, some are heads/heads and some are tails/tails. They all come from the same hoard
We do rarelythe adjective Gem or Gem BU to raw coins understanding just how difficult it is to obtain those grades from the top two Third Party Grading Services. And we never apply the term to unopened rolls (or even opened rolls) as attaching that adjective implies every coin within the roll is a minimum of MS65. Laughably false to make such a declaration.
Like The Boy Who Cried Wolf, overusing this term has diminished the value of coins truly deserving.
