This 1916 Mercury Dime, formerly known as Winged Liberty Dime, replaced the Barber Dime in 1916. The Mercury Dime was produced from 1916- 1945. Earlier dates (1916 - 1931) are much more scarce to find , as are the branch mint, key date/mintmark and semi key dates. Featured on the Obverse side: Winged Liberty or Mercury is depicted facing left with LIBERTY spelled around the periphery. IN GOD WE TRUST appears to the left of the neck, the date is positioned just below the bust. The designers initials "AW" appear just to the right of the neck. Reverse side: A large torch is centered vertically adorned with an are head and olive branches. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME is spelled out around the periphery. The mintmark, if any, appears near the bottom rim left of the torch. The dime presented has full bands along with full reeds. The dimes have a diameter of 17.91mm, a thickness of 1.36mm and weighs 2.50 grams. This dime has been authenticated and graded by a local coin shop. This dime is so shiny and all details are so sharp that even in a light box it's hard to show just how pristine it is.
