Tied with one other piece for finest graded by PCGS, this beautiful gem has a light golden tint with outstanding eye appeal. CAC approved for quality and eye appeal. This 1866 3cN PCGS/CAC MS67 is part of the Three-Cent Nickels series which were struck from 1865-1889. The coin was minted in Philadelphia with a composition of 75% copper; 25% nickel. One look and you'll see why this rare piece is tied for finest graded at PCGS. It's hard to imagine how this coin survived for 148 years in such an amazing state of preservation. The surfaces have some light, Mint made die polishing lines, but are otherwise immaculate, and an intense, full, booming luster shows off original, undipped surfaces. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and crisply struck. The eye appeal is tremendous!
Clashed dies are the norm for this date, ranging from light clashing to heavy clashing and worn dies. The present writer cannot recall ever seeing an unclashed 1866 Three-Cent Nickel.
