I hate to keep harping on PCGS' grading inequities because I am not a professional grader so what do I know, right? Don't get me wrong, as coin graders and certifiers go I think PCGS is the best and I only buy coins certified by them. But I think this coin exemplifies one of their shortcomings. Again: my opinion. To me, this coin shows no visible signs of having been circulated. But lets put my opinion aside and assume that the coin HAS been circulated. In that case I would give it a grade of AU-58, not AU-55. The argument of its having been circulated or not is so close, so debatable that if the powers that be at PCGS declare it to be circulated then the grade given the coin should reflect that argument and be as close to uncirculated as possible: AU-58.
Since there's nothing I can do about the situation I'll shut up and thank you for listening.
The PCGS book has set the fair value of this coin at $41 .
