This is a World War II worker identification badge numbered 38154 for the New England Shipbuilding Corporation of South Portland, Maine. This sleepy little Maine community underwent a sea change with the advent of World War II: two shipyards were built there within two years. The South Portland Shipbuilding Corporation, also known as the "West Yard", started in 1941, following the Todd-Bath Iron ("East") Yard formed a year earlier.
