There were two major varieties of the 1873 Three Cent Piece in regards to the style of the number "3" in the 1873 date. The closed "3" is depicted above and has a wider space between the two ends of the "3". In addition: The Closed "3" is also farther away from the liberty bust than the Open "3" variety.
