What this coin looks like (obverse, reverse, mint mark location, special features, etc.):
One major variety is the 1853/2 $10 Gold Liberty Head Eagle featuring a "3 Over 2" overdate. Some numismatic experts have discredited this variety. Although some still recognize the variety and places single quote marks around the "2" in their identification - such as: 1853/'2'. There is clearly an anomalous feature within the bottom loop of the "3" and a small line below the digit "3" as depicted by the arrows in the example closeup image below. Not all numismatists agree that this is an underlying number "2" - but could be some sort of a die defect instead.
