1853 Seated Liberty Quarter - Recut Date: No Arrows - No Rays

This variety of the 1853 Seated Liberty Quarter is very rare and valuable. This variety features no arrows at the date and no rays around the eagle as depicted in the example image of the coin above. Only 44200 of them were produced and most of them were melted down by bullion speculators shortly after being produced. Typically the 1853 date has arrows at the date and rays around the eagle.
