What this coin looks like (obverse, reverse, mint mark location, special features, etc.):
The 1834 had 4 major varieties of varying combinations of features on the obverse and reverse of the coin. One feature is the Large "8" vs Small "8" varieties which deals with the size of the number "8" in the 1834 date. The Large "8" was larger and taller than the number "3" while the Small "8" was more level and equal in relative size to the "3". The differences and comparisons can be seen in the example image above. It should be fairly easy to indentify each variety after reviewing the rest of the example image:
The second feature deals with the size of the stars on the obverse of the coin or Large Stars vs Small Stars. The differences between these can be seen in the example image below:
The last major feature deals with the size of the lettering on the reverse of the coin or Large Letters vs Medium Letters. Note the letters in the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the spacing between the letters in each variety as well as their alignment relative to the wreath as well.
