The 1873-S Seated Liberty Silver Dollar is a mysterious coin. The US Mint reported that they struck 700 of these coins - yet not a single one is known to exist. Two of these coins were sent to the Philadelphia Mint for routine examination but they were not preserved. It is assumed that the US Mint melted down all of these coins along with other obsolete coins. It is possible that some of these coins may still exist but have never been found.
