About Me:
I started collecting in grade school with my lunch money at a little shop in town. That was the late 1960's early 1970's.
I continued collecting through high school and college.
In the early 1990's I realized that I'd never be able to afford the collection I truly wanted.
So, I started buying and selling. This way I'd get to own some great coins even if, for only a short time.
One thing lead to another and before I knew it I had a company:
CFMC (Coins from Mark Clewell)
I started using the free ads in the two major rags and built my mailing list.
Typed on a typewriter and copied on a Canon. Then thankfully the internet came along and I got a 486 IBM.
WOW 300 names on my list, but I had a word processor and a bubble jet.
I was going to shows and hawking the coin net boards.
CFMC was online and I had a phone number that spelt out CENT
Along with the internet came competition, to keep up I got into varieties.
Cherrypickers' Guide was a monthly news letter and what I picked at shows sold fairly quickly.
I started sending a few coins to the people writing the guides cause they needed better pictures.
Another WOW I got my name published in these guides.
PLUS my plan was working:
Amazing Rainbow Morgans
Proof Shield Nickels
Picked 8 coins at $20 each from a 1909 VDB BU roll laid out in a case, the three I sent to PCGS came back 66.
1972 Lincoln Cent Doubled Die PCGS MS-66 Red without spots or prints, wish I had that back now.
1931-S Lincoln I'll never forget, what's a PCGS 65 RD selling for today?
Previously unknown condition VAM Morgan sold to Mike Fey
Paul Funaiole Bought my Lincoln RPM's
I was asked to join PNG but didn't due to a divorce.
That was 1998.
I tried to rebuild between 2003 and 2006 using teletrade and cameo proof coinage along with the website that was no longer working.
eBay was now cut throat.
But again, I got to own some really great coins.
So, here I am happily married to a wonderful lady that let's me dabble in coins again.
Hoping my eyes don't go bad.
